The Quest to find the Mystery Woman

On Wednesday the 21st of May 2008 I was in Cuckmere Haven and encountered a girl.  Although we didn't speak and I knew nothing about her, she made such an impression on me that I wanted to do all I could to try to find her..

The Quest page provides more information about how I came to encounter this woman. The Press page  indicates what a stir this caused within the media.

The mystery woman has still not come forward.

I AM ENDING THE SEARCH

Despite the support of a great many people and what a good idea it seemed at the time, I have decided to end my search and have issued the following press release.

Press Release  - Friday 6th June 2008

I had no idea just what a newsworthy story my search for the mystery woman would become.

The press interest has really taken me by surprise and also how strongly it has captured the public's imagination.

The website has had thousands of 'hits' and I have received a great many comments and emails from people, the majority of which are very supportive.

I am aware that some journalists are trying to make this national news although I had never intended for this to become such a big a story. Having a small request appear in the local paper is one thing, appearing on television and in the tabloids is a completely different matter.

So far the mystery woman has not come forward although it forces me to consider how she must feel if she is aware of my search. The last thing I would want to do is to make her feel uncomfortable being at the centre of this escalating unwanted media attention.

I missed the opportunity to talk to her on the 21st May and I have to accept that fate decided that we should not meet. Perhaps it is destined to be that I will never know who she is; c'est la vie. I therefore bring this search to an end.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this quest and to the mystery woman herself; I apologise for shining the spotlight upon you in this way.

The idea behind www.mysteryperson.co.uk

Obtaining mysterywoman.co.uk was a complete stroke of luck and I found mysteryperson.co.uk also to be available. I had this romantic idea of setting up a website to allow other people to start their own search just like my own.

With thanks to your votes it is evident that 73.89% of people think it would be a good idea to do this, although I still have an element of doubt in my mind.

On the one hand, whilst it is a great opportunity for the searcher, what if the subject of this search does not want to be found or does not want to be the centre of this unwanted attention.

Whist I entered into this with the best and most honourable intentions, I would hate to see this service as being branded the 'dating website for stalkers'.

It is due to the possibility of this negative publicity that I am going to pull the plug on this idea.  I will concentrate my efforts on my business and writing my new book and screenplay.

Thank you again to everyone who has participated, your input has been valuable and interesting.

Regards,

Rob Wassell
